Welcome to the Scorps report,

Sunday February 26th was where 4 months of preparation would finally reap rewards for the Central Scorpions. Though trials were held back in November, and training sessions through December, the beginning of 2006 saw the beginning of the Arkaba State league, and finally, February would hold the grand finale of this competition. Central Scorpions efforts had been rewarded with all three teams represented, showing the strength this club has gained in the past few months.

How would they fare? Would they fall at the final hurdle? Would they repeat the Northern Vipers feat of Winter 2005 and take out all 3 divisions? Or would they falter, as Stingrays did, and lose the lot? Three lots of 40 minutes would decide.

It started with the mixed, who were very confident, having gone through the regular season undefeated. Their opponents were the South-West Wolves, who were riding high from an upset 4-3 win over Eastern Stingrays in the semi-final. The wolves spirit couldn't be questioned as they trailed 0-3 in that semi, before rallying to find themselves in the big game.

Wolves had a dream start, with a long-ball finding a speedy guy free on the left wing for an easy score in the opening set of six. Scorps kept their composure, and it wasn't long before Andrew Cherry managed to free himself down the right wing. When cover defense converged, he found Mark Williams in support, who ran the remaining 20 metres to tie the scores. Cherry would continue to create opportunities, however it would be Matt Schinckel who would make the next indent on the score-board. Wolves again scored from the re-start and the scores were again tied. With not long to go in the first half, Matt Schinckel wrapped close to the line, and ran a wide angle, when the winger attempted a shut-down, he found Karina McLauchlan free and gave her an uninterrupted run to score. Scorps 3-2. Wolves were beginning to tire, and more opportunities were being found. Dave Broderick dumping between two defenders, unfortunately Matt Schinckel failed to cleanly pick-up from half. Later Jo Fell ran in-goal from half, but her pass to Lucy Burke went to ground. Just before the siren sounded, Matt Schinckel defused a Wolves attack with an intercept. As he ran down-field, a Wolves defender stepped out of the sub-box and chased him down. While there is some conjecture as to whether a penalty touch-down should have been paid, the referees determined a penalty was sufficient. Half-time Scorps 3-2.

Scorps would need to re-focus in the second half, and only worry about things within their control. The best way to do that would be to score, and Mark Wood used his blistering speed to do just that a few seconds after the 2nd half tapped off. Some good team play put Scorps into good field position again and Paul Rogers found some space. When defense got close, he passed to Andrew Cherry who crossed in the corner. There was some deliberation between the referees, and eventually the referees took this one back, ruling a forward pass. Those who were anywhere near the Scorps sub-box would know what the normally quiet and reserved Paul thought of this. Not all was lost, however as Mark Williams crossed from short-range a few minutes later. Wolves replied to these three-straight touch-downs by getting one back, after Scorps seemed to lose focus. Normality was soon restored as Mark Williams completed his hat-trick, a long range half-run from Mark Wood lead to Carly Potter nabbing a grand final score, just beating the attention of Bec Thompson on Mark's other side. Wolves again posted a score as a shut-down failed, allowing a Wolves winger free. however Mark Wood would turn from playmaker into scorer, after combining with Shawn Garner for a clever score. Wolves player Gino Geracitano, who would later be awarded player of the final, grabbed a consolation score just before the siren sounded. Final Score Scorps 8-5, making Scorps Mixed the first Scorps team to go through a season undefeated.

Next up was the Scorps Womens team, having qualified for the Grand Final with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Eastern Stingrays in the Friday night semi. Key play-makers Amelia Kent and Jess Ryan were instrumental in this solid win, but would the edge be taken off them, needing to play two tough matches within 48 hours? Their opponents were the Northern Vipers, who had last tasted defeat back in round 1. These two teams met the previous Sunday where, after a slow start, Scorps ended-up going down by one touch-down.

The game began with an early touch-down to Vipers, however Amelia Kent took advantage of some sensational rucking to score within the next set of six. A second touch-down to Vipers followed. Lindy Foureur looked to have levelled scores again, however the final pass was ruled to have been propelled forward. Vipers held Scorps back on their line for the next few minutes, but would find no joy. It would be Amelia Kent who would crack the Vipers defense, as she dived over to draw Scorps level at 2-all. The remainder of the half was a tough affair, with neither team giving an inch to the other. During this period, it was the concerted efforts of Jess Ryan, Anna O'Brien, Nicole Treleaven and Emily Wray who held Scorps solid around the middle of the field. This was a tense period of the game, and any score before half-time would be crucial. However none eventuated as each time searched for a way to break the other. Half-time: 2-all.

Coach Gavin McDonald asked his players for one last effort for the season, while Captain Amelia Kent wanted the team to focus on driving the ball forward and working the Vipers defense. Vipers had the better of the opening stages, with two dangerous Vipers chances being turned away, firstly by Zoe Duffy, and the second after a deserate dive from Tessa Dignam. After this period, the game began to turn Scorps way. Alyse Palmer contunied on her excellent first half work and was beginning to really stretch the Vipers. Mel Johnson had a couple of chances in the corner, including one from a Jess Ryan half-run, however both were dis-allowed. It would be left to the ever-reliable Amelia Kent who would slice through the Vipers and sprint 20 metres to secure her hat-trick. Scorps with-held the Vipers in an important sign from the re-start and then tried to work over a tired Vipers defense. Working the ball out of their danger zone, A wide-running Lucy Alver drove the ball deep into the Vipers defense, and Amelia Kent took the huge half-run chance on offer to reach the in-goal. With the initial wave of support marked, Amelia eventually found an unmarked Mel Johnson to put Scorps up by 2. Vipers tried to bridge the gap, however Scorps defense remained true, and a second Central Scorpions title had been claimed. Full-time Scorps 4-2. Amelia Kent won the Best on Ground award for her efforts.

Time for the Mens final. Scorps had finished top of the ladder, while their opposition was decided in a semi-final on Friday. The Friday semi saw Eastern Stingrays play Northern Vipers, and in a tight match, Vipers managed a late game-breaker to prevail 3-2 and advance to the final.

Both teams started fairly evenly, but it would be Vipers who would have the first opportunity, with a long ball releasing a winger who out-ran the cover defense to touch-down. 0-1 to Vipers. Both the other Scorps grand final teams had conceded the first touch-down, so this wasn't a huge set-back. A Scorps error gave the ball to Vipers in reasonable position, and they made Scorps pay as a falling player managed a sensational pass from the ground to find a winger to make the score 0-2. A Vipers player then skillfully danced through the Scorps from close range. Simon Lemmo was cruelly adjudged to have interfered with a Vipers half and was penalised, giving Vipers a second set inside Scorps territory. ("He's been doing it all day, sir!") Some skillful Vipers quick-hands found a free winger who crossed to extend Vipers lead to 0-4 at the break. With not a lot of positives in the first half, the occasions where Scorps had controlled the ball had threatened the Vipers defense. Luke Thornton and Julian Costa's driving had gained many metres forward, while Gus Hanbrook, Nick Barron and Phil Carter had all shown creativity when in the attacking area. Scorps main worry was there hadn't been enough of these opportunities in the first half.

While a 4-0 deficit is a major one, especially at this level, it can be over-come. However a good start is vital. Scorps opened with the ball in the second half, and Brice Mitchell had a very close touch-down claim disallowed, being ruled to have been touched before grounding the ball. This was in contrast to the opposite end of the field where a Vipers touch-down was awarded, despite the pleas from Simon Lemmo. Vipers 0-5. Gus hanbrook was trying everything in his arsonal to try and kick-start some Scorps raids, however frustration was beginning to take it's toll as Scorps began to turn-over more ball. A wrap close to Scorps line paid dividends for Vipers as a low dive gave them touch-down number six. Travis Crawford created a few attacking chances, before Gus Hanbrook was able to reap some rewards for Scorps. He found a tumbling Anthony Hull on the wing with a great long ball to get Scorps underway, however Vipers returned to the scorers sheet soon after. Mens coach Nick Barron managed an acrobatic score, however he would turn hero to villain, as frustration lead to a verbal clash with referee Jon Hall, and he was banished for a period of time. With only a few minutes left to play, Vipers completed the rout as a 5-man Scorps defense was unable to contain an arcing run. That completed the scoring at 2-9 to Vipers.

While obviously disappointed at the loss, it must be remembered the Scorps Mens team overcame the loss of two key players from last season in Gavin McDonald and Glenn O'Davis, plus the mid-season departure of Ben Magi to still finish first after the regular season. Grand final day was unfortunately a day where nothing flowed their way.

That concludes the write-up section of this message. On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone in the club on being so approachable and friendly, making this club what it is, and it's the above success that flows from that. I would also like to thank all the coaches, Matt Schinckel (Head coach), Nick Barron and Ben Magi (Mens), Gavin McDonald (Womens)and Shawn Garner (Mixed), as well as their assistants for all the time they've put into preparing these squads.

Finally, I am in a unique position where I played with the mixed, managed the women and trained with the men, so I've has quite a lot to do with each of the three squads, and I couldn't imagine another region that has anywhere near the quality of people that Central Scorpions currently have, and that is a credit to all of you individually.

Congratulations to all teams for three great victories over the Wolves.

The evening started well with the Women scoring first - a Lucy Alver Special - and continuing onto a good win. Jess Ryan managed a fantastic half-run in the first half, and some good defence from the whole team kept us up over the Wolves, 5-3. The team is now a very close second, with Northern Vipers only having a superior touchdown difference. They are also guaranteed a spot in the finals. (I would like to be able to give a better rundown of the game, but I arrived a little late, and was warming up for the second half. If anyone in the future wants to submit a writeup, feel free!).

The Mixed were up next, and never really looked in any danger. Mark Wood kept up his great scoring run, getting the first 6 touchdowns, with Paul Rogers and Matt Schinckel managing to stop Woody scoring the whole lot with one late touchdown each. The girls in the team were fantastic, with Karina McLauchlan and Jo Fell showing great aggression and power in attack. This makes Scorpions Mixed undefeated, and almost guarantees us top spot, and a certain place in the Grand Final. We'd need to lose both games, and Stingers win both of them by a large margin for it to be in doubt.

The Men finished the night on a high too: another 5-3 victory over Wolves. With replacement coach Nick Barron back into the team, and Luke Thornton down from Mildura again, the level of attack was high all night. Lucky not to be awarded several other touchdowns, the boys kept the Wolves from scoring for the last 10-15 minutes of the game. Some great shutdown defence from Brice, Phil, Jules and Matty meant Wolves strong attacking lineup of Jezza, Dan and Sean were kept impotent. Oh, and Gav didn't do too much either. The men hold onto top spot, and are guaranteed a place in the finals. A win over Stingrays should cement their place in the Grand Final.

Training will be as normal this Friday - there's no Big Day Out, so there's no excuse not to be there! If you have a legitimate reason, please contact the coaches, rather than me directly.

Hot weather - training cancelled

With the weather above 41°C, and not looking to abate, there will be no training tonight.

All players are asked to be there by 2:30, in order to watch the Mixed. Remember it is a double header, so bring lots of water. We are hoping to have a couple of eskies full of ice, but if anyone wants to bring their own, that would be great. We are also hoping to have some shades out, and again anyone with a shade structure is welcome to bring that too.

Gavin will announce the Womens teams by SMS later tonight, and Ban may do the same for the Mens - he's on 'the range' as we speak, so I think that means he is 'working'.

As for cancellation information about Sunday - this is the info from the Conditions of Entry:

Hot weather policy is a temperature of 41 degrees or higher as at 2pm on the Sunday of competition on the Bureau of Meteorology website http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDS65000.shtml, listing for Kent Town.

If the temperature is 41 degrees, games will be cancelled and rescheduled to the following week, creating a double-header if one is not already programmed. If the double-header round is cancelled, the games will be rescheduled to the next two (2) scheduled weeks, creating a double-header on these weeks.

If the temperature is 39-40 degrees at either of the above times, games will go ahead on the scheduled date, but will be postponed by a minimum of 1-hour with modified games played as 4 x 10 minute quarters with a 2 minute break between the first and second, and third and fourth quarters, and a 5 minute break at half time. This format will continue until Touch SA announces a return to the normal game format, guided by a drop in temperature below 39 degrees.

If you SMS 'stateleague' to 19 30 30, you will get up to date info as to the cancellation status. This service will be updated hourly from 12noon on the 22nd January.

Results from Round 1

Congratulations to all teams in the big wins we had on Sunday.

The day started with the Mens Grudge match against Wolves. With three ex-Scorpions players in the Wolves team, we had a lot to play for. The boys came through in fine form, with a fantastic first half. We kept it over them for the second half, and ended up with a 9-4 victory.

Next up was the Mixed open, and right from the start Scorpions took control of the game. With only 4 girls, we maxed out the male players to 8, and worked hard to take advantage of the extra players. With a final score of 11-4, the game should have been even more of a whitewash, but for a couple of late touchdowns Wolves scored in the closing minutes.

To close the day the Women played. A little short on girls this week, we played with 11 players. This meant the two wingers, Tessa and Mel (two of the younger players) played the whole game without subs! Well done girls. Playing against a very young Wolves team, the game looked fairly even in the first half, but Scorps worked hard to overcome them by the final siren. Final result: 5-2.

Training will be on Friday at 6pm as per usual, but next Sunday is the Double Header. Game times are:

The trial on November 20th will include a match between trialling Mens
players and the Defence Mens Open team at approx. 6:30pm.

Registration for Trials:

Registration for trials is not compulsory, however, it will enable us
to make sure the trials run smoothly. Please note that you must
notify the Regional Coordinator (Matthew Schinckel) of any reasons why
you cannot attend trials in order to be eligible for selection.

Because of the restructure of the State League competition, each
region is only able to select 24 male and 24 female players. From
this, each week teams of 12 males and 12 females will play in the
Men/Womens Open divisions, and a team of 14 will play in the
Mixed Open division. This will make selection for the various teams
very competitive, but should allow for us to create three strong
teams, with an opportunity for developing players to progress into the
Men/Womens teams according to performance.

The CSTA Committee is hoping to have the best turnout for selections
ever, as we push forward to improve our results again this season.

Things you need to know:
(This is not an exhaustive list: more information will be provided at trials).

You must be playing at City Touch, and qualify for finals in at leastone team in order to be eligible to play State League 2006.
You must play 3 games at City Touch to qualify for finals.

Summer State League

With the start of the City Touch Season, just a reminder to all people planning on playing State League this summer: Trials are coming up soon.

Also, to be eligible to play for CSTA you need to be playing at City Touch this season. That means you must qualify for finals in at least one City Touch team.

Summer State League Coaches

Central Scorpions Touch Association is calling for expressions of
interest in positions coaching the following teams in the TouchSA
Summer State League 2006:

Men's Open

Women's Open

Mixed Open

This season, due to a change in the structure of the State League, the
CSTA committee envisage a higher level of integration between the
teams, and the coaches will be expected to ensure this happens as a
part of their responsibilities.

Coaches must be NCAS Level 1 or higher. Expressions of interest, with
a short list of experience and the names of two referees must be
submitted to the Central Scorpions Touch Association by Friday,
November 4th 2005.

Applicants will be notified on Monday, November 7th.

Trials will be held on 18th, 20th & 27th November, games begin 15th
January, and will run on Sunday evenings. Trainings are planned for
December and January.

Positions as Assistant Coach for the various teams will also be
filled. People applying for these positions are expected to be NCAS
Level 1 or higher, or intend to undertake a Level 1 Coaching course at
the earliest opportunity. Applications for these positions will be
made at the same time, but the committee reserve the right to appoint
coaches after this date if no satisfactory applicants exist.

Dear CSTA members,

State League Review Meeting
The CSTA committee will be holding a meeting this Friday to discuss the Winter 2005 season that has just pasted and the Summer 2006 season which is 6 week season planned for early January (replacing the state league weekend). I would like to ask that those who did not respond earlier with 1 positive experience from the Winter 2005 season and 1 area for improvement for the Summer 2006 season, to please reply so that we can discuss any issues at the meeting on Friday. This will help us improve your club for the future.

Border Challenge
On Saturday 3rd September, SA and VIC fought it out at the Border Challenge in Mildura. Through the miserable rain South Australia came out strong winning all three of the Men's Open games and two games to one in the Women's Open, while Victoria had a clean sweep in the Mixed Open division. As expected it was a tight encounter with most games only separated by one or two scores.

As most of you are aware, the Mitchell Cup will be played on Saturday 6th August and will consist of the top 28 players in the state in a 3 game series commencing at 0930. It gives me great pleasure to announce that we have the most representatives in the Women's Open (13), Men's Open (8) and in total (21). As the season has now come to a close I am in the process of collecting playing shirts and refunding the $50 shirt deposit. Fundraising

By now, most of you should have received a box of chocolates to sell on behalf of the Central Scorpions. Money for chocolates ($48) is to be returned before Friday July 29th to Jo Fell (Social/Fundraiser Coordinator) or Paul Rogers (Treasurer). If you would like to sell more boxes or have not yet received one to sell, we have approximately 16 more that we still need to hand out. Money raised will assist the club with major purchases and will put the club in an unprecedented financial position. This is a great result for the club and members, considering the club was in huge debt at this time last year.

Dear All

Due to the constant rain, lack of sun and wind we have experienced this week the Greenhill Road fields are too wet to play State League Round 8 on Friday 15th July. We have made this decision early in light of the predicted forecast for the next couple of days and to assist you with the notification of players, referees, coaches and the like as soon as possible.

The games are re-scheduled for Sunday 17th July, starting with mixed as the first game at 1.30pm, second game at 2.20pm and third game at 3.10pm. We will look to possibly utilise F6, F7, F5 & F8 depending upon weather, use and condition as evaluated on Sunday. We will only re-schedule Sunday games if there is risk due to any predicted storm or potential danger with field conditions.

The buzzword will be updated this afternoon.

Marianne and Shannon will be coordinating Sunday, as Tara and I will be in Mt Gambier with the Junior Border Challenge. If you have any queries regarding the re-schedule please direct them to Marianne in the office 8373 3222 either today or tommorrow or mobile 0402 893 113.

TouchSA Position: Project Officer - Communication & Game Development

Touch football is one of South Australia’s favourite sports with 14 affiliated competitions running across the state which include large numbers of women and juniors. The state body is also responsible for the administration and management of its State and National representative programs.

Due to changes in the management structure of the sport Touch SA has the opportunity to introduce the new position of Project Officer – Communication & Game Development.

This newly formed position will be responsible for the daily running of the states largest competition City Touch situated in the Adelaide Parklands as well as working on other programs and projects being delivered by the state body.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.

Demonstrated success in project management.
Demonstrated success in the delivery of sporting programs.
Excellent written and oral communication skills supported by interpersonal skills of a high order.
Demonstrated high level negotiation and facilitation skills.
Demonstrated experience and skills in volunteer management.

Tertiary qualifications in sport management or related field desirable.

Dear State League Regional Coordinators,

Excellent work on Friday Night after games was cancelled for Bad Weather. At the clubrooms from 5pm – 6.20pm we only had one player turn-up for their game, and 2 Referee’s (both at which were at the fields shortly after games where off). This proves that your communication to all your Coach’s, Players & Referee’s all worked.

Just confirming that game from Round 2, Friday 10th June. Will be played this Sunday commencing at 1.30pm. These will run in the same timeslots as previously communicated, with 6.30pm – 1.30pm, 7.30pm – 2.30pm & 8.30pm – 3.30pm. All games will be played on Field 6 & 7 and will go ahead unless a dangerous situation arises again with lightning or storms. A decision will be made by 11.30am and again will be communicated first to the Regional Coordinators.

At this stage, due to it being a Sunday, I am not sure how quickly we will be able to change the Buzzword; however we will try and make sure that this is altered as well.

The Level 1 Referee’s Course advertised for this Sunday will now be cancelled. Participants that registered will be communicated to directly and will be put through to the next advertised course.

State 12’s Trials for both Saturday & Sunday will go ahead as scheduled. Sunday session will start at 3pm – 5pm, if you have some people that could come and help with this area on Field 5 that would be appreciated.

For this Friday Night, I will be unavailable, so your first point of contact if you have any problems will be Colm Maguire or Tracy Frith.

Wet Weather Postponement Procedures

From Touch SA:
Just a quick reminder to all of you, as rain is forecast for the next few days, with heavy rain forecast on Friday.

In the event of the weather forcing the cancellation of any State League Round on a Friday Night, the following process will be used.

An email or SMS will be sent directly to you the Regional Coordinator. Furthermore the buzzword ‘stateleague’ SMS to 193030 will send back a message will be used for the wider State League Community to utilise. A decision will be made at 3pm on the day of competition.

Washed out Rounds will be played on the Sunday the week following. Eg Round 2 cancelled on 10th June would be played on Sunday 19th June. Sunday Games will commence at 1.30pm, unless a Sunday round is already programmed. In the event of this happening, times for a double round will be communicated to you the regional coordinator.

For the Come’n’Try nights that might be affected by cancelling games such as this Friday and Friday the 17th, please ensure you still have someone present to talk to interested people that may turn up. On these nights Touch SA will still be at the clubrooms from 5.45pm – 6.30pm. It will be your responsibility to bring and supply information about participating with your region.

Team Managers
I am still looking for team managers for the Men's Open and Women's Open team. It's not a hard job and is perfect for your partners, parents, or Mixed Open players supporting the Men's and Women's. If you are interested, please contact me asap. The main duty of a team manager is to ensure all team administration requirements are met before, during, and after each game. The details of these requirements are explained below.# Team managers are to ensure all players are in correct uniform and have "signed-on" for each game. If a player does not meet these requirements, they could be fined $11 (uniform) or $50 (signing on)
# Team managers are to collect "player's player" votes from each player after each game.# Team managers are responsible for bringing the ball each week and making sure it is taken home at the end of the night
# Team managers may also be required to assist with coaching or taking warm-ups, as directed by the coach.# Team managers will be the first point of contact of Touch SA if any issues arise concerning the team.# Team managers are to assist the coach with the recording of the players availability throughout the seasonAs regional coordinator I provide you with printed sheets of the team so all you have to do is rock up.

Winter State League Update - 24MAY05

Players, Coaches, Referees, and Committee Members,
Here is a quick update of things ahead. Note that I will be away in Dubbo for a week and will not have access to email while I'm away so if there's anything urgent that needs to be addressed prior to Monday 30th May, please call my mobile or speak to your coaches or coordinators.

Coaches, please pass this info onto players that don't check their email.

Junior Mixed Competition
Unfortunately, Touch SA did not receive sufficient nominations for the Junior Mixed division. In order to get a competition up and running, there will be a 6 week season commencing in Round 4 of the normal state league season (Friday 24th June). The first 3 weeks will be used to recruit more players to each of the regions so that an extra 1-2 teams can be included and each region can strengthen their sides with more players.

In order to assist with the process of recruiting players to our region and other regions, a come n try day is being organised for Round 2 (Friday 10th June) from 6pm-7pm at City Touch. All current Central Scorpions junior players are invited and encouraged to attend. More details to follow. Until then, please keep in touch with me and your coaches.

Also, because the season will be shorter than expected, a reduction of fees will be considered by the committee. Until this has been approved, all junior players should still pay the full amount of $40, and if approved, the committee will arrange a reimbursement as appropriate.

Mitchell Cup
Please find attached a flyer advertising a new Elite event for the Touch SA calendar.
This event has been named in recognition of Jo Mitchell (not me!) for her elite representation over many years and ongoing contributions to Touch in South Australia, including various areas of administration, refereeing, selecting and coaching.
The concept is to select the best twenty-eight (28) players based on the Talent Identification process over the last 12-months to form two (2) teams to compete against each other in a 3-game series for elite supremacy in each of Men's and Women's divisions. Training + Season Fees

To all successfully selected players,
Firstly, congratulations on being selected to represent the Central Scorpions and the City Touch competition for the Winter 2005 state league season. I am sorry for the lateness in response to some people regarding selections, but it was difficult to have these finalised without a formal coaching structure in place. Hopefully you have all received an email (or phone call) regarding your selection by now. If not, please let me know.

Secondly, training sessions will be organised by the coach of each team. At this stage the Women's Open team (plus shadows) will be training tonight (13th May), and Men's/Mixed Open will be informed of the next training session as soon as possible. This means that there is no training session this Sunday (15th May) as previously advertised. Junior Mixed will train at 5pm before each game, but depending on coaching arrangements, may also train at least once before the first round.

Thirdly, all players are expected to pay their season fees to Paul Rogers (Central Scorpions treasurer) before Friday 20th May. You will be able to pay your fees to Paul (or someone from the committee) at City Touch Clubrooms on Thursday night 19th May (6:15-8:30), and Friday night 20th May (6:30-7:30). If you are unable to pay your fees on these days, please make alternative arrangements prior to Friday 20th May. Paul will be provided with information regarding how much each player is to be charged. It is the responsibility of the player to ensure that we are aware of any discounts to be provided (juniors, full time concession, club officials). We do have the ability to accept season fees via Internet Transfer so if you are interested in this option, please email myself or Paul.

1) All players are invited to attend the final 2 Central Scorpions trials/trainings sessions on Friday 6th and Sunday 8th May.

Please read the following very carefully if you are interested in being part of the 2005 winter state league season which commences on Friday 3rd June and consists of 9 minor rounds plus a finals series. The trials and club training days are open to all players.

BACKGROUND
The Central Scorpions Touch Association (CSTA) is a member of the Touch SA state league competition and provides an opportunity for City Touch members to play at a representative level. The state league competition consists of a Summer season which is held on a weekend in February, and a Winter season which is held over 9 rounds plus finals from May to July on Friday nights. This competition is the next step for City Touch players and is a stepping stone to representation at state and national level. There are 4 regions which participate in the state league competition, representing 4 regions within Adelaide, including the South West Wolves, Eastern Stingrays, Northern Vipers, and Central Scorpions. The Central Scorpions represent the City Touch competition played on Greenhill Rd (Park 17).

The Central Scorpions will be entering a team in each of the following divisions for the winter state league season
Men's Open
Women's Open
Mixed Open
Junior Mixed (16 and under, born 1989 or after)

IMPORTANT DATES
The location of all trials, trainings, and games will be at the City Touch Club in Park 17 on Greenhill Road.

Trial Day 1: Friday 22nd April, 6:30pm-8:00pm
Trial Day 2: Sunday 24th April, 3pm-5pm
Club Training Day 1: Friday 6th May, 6:30-8:00pm
Club Training Day 2: Sunday 8th May, 3pm-6pm (including AGM and BBQ)
All players are invited to attend the 4 trial and trainings days. If you are unable to attend any of the trials/trainings and wish to be considered for selection, you must contact the regional coordinator (Brice Mitchell) with a letter outlining the reasons you are unable to attend and a brief playing history. All players will trial together, and will be allocated to a team upon successful selection. Following the 2nd club training day, there will be a complimentary BBQ (~5pm), at which time the Central Scorpions Touch Association will hold it's Annual General Meeting.

Upon successful selection to a team, you will be expected to attend team training sessions which will be held every Sunday from 15th May, except when postponed games are to be played.

UNIFORMS
Shirts
The Central Scorpions will issue you a playing shirt to be used in each game throughout the season. This shirt must be returned at the end of the season in the same condition it was issued and the deposit will be fully refunded.
Shorts
All players are required to wear shorts endorsed by the Touch SA Conditions Of Entry. These can be purchased from CSTA as follows:

Call for Coaching Nominations.

Central Scorpions Touch Association is looking for interested people to coach the teams in the 2005 Winter State League season.

Coaches and Assistant Coaches are needed for teams in the following divisions:

Men's Open
Women's Open
Mixed Open
Mixed Junior

The competition will run on Friday Nights throughout Winter, with Sunday afternoon games in case of inclement weather. Coaches will be expected to be available for all games, and team and club training sessions.

Coaches are expected to be NCAS Level 1 (Touch) Accredited (or above), and Assistant Coaches will be required to sit a Level 1 Coaching Course when next available, if necessary.

Central Scorpions win the regional club championship

Announcement
The Central Scorpions state league region was awarded the regional club championship for the Summer 2005 season during the Touch SA presentations at the Arkaba Hotel on Sunday night. It was a combined achievement, assisted by the Mixed Open team who beat the Northern Vipers 5-4 in the Grand Final, even after losing to the Vipers by 2 TDs in the minor round. The Junior Mixed team were impressive and undefeated all weekend, and finished with a Grand Final victory over the South West Wolves 5-2. The Men's Open team narrowly missed out on the finals after they lost their opening game 3-4 to the eventual winners, but finished the weekend with a victory over the Northern Vipers 10-3 to claim 3rd spot. The Women's Open team finished 4th overall, narrowly loosing 4-6 to the Wolves twice, but managed a convincing 14-0 victory over the Rams.

On behalf of the Central Scorpions, I would like to thank all players, coaches, and team managers who ensured the success and professionalism of each of our state league teams. A special mention must go to our referees who represented the region, refereeing an amazing amount of games over the weekend ensured that our region received vital club championship points. I would like to personally thank Jon Hall, Chris Denison-Smith, David Ludlow, Neale Burton, John Schofield, and Indra Garner and hope that you can all make it to our presentation lunch (details below).

Scorpions Win Club Championship

Central Scorpions Touch Association was the most successful region at this year's Summer State League carnival. Winning both the Mixed Junior and Mixed Open premierships, and placing 3rd and 4th in Mens and Womens, they comfortably won the Club Championship.

All players and officials are thanked for their efforts throughout the weekend, and in the leadup to the carnival. A reminder that the presentation luncheon is to be held at the Kentish this Sunday (March 6th), at 12:30pm.

The fixture for the Summer 2005 state league season was released on Sporting Pulse on Wednesday afternoon. All Central Scorpions games have been summarised into an Excel spreadsheet (attached). They are also listed at the bottom of this email and have been placed on our web site. It is your responsibility to ensure that you check the starting time of all your games, and arrive at least 1 hour before each of your scheduled games.

Now that the fixture has been released, please confirm if you are unable to play any games. Also, if you are not doing anything I encourage you to support our Central Scorpions teams, as there is a game in almost every time slot.

Playing Shirts
Most of you have now received your playing shirt to be used during the weekend. You are responsible for returning it to your team manager at the end of the state league weekend on Sunday 27th February, or after your last game. Once the shirt has been returned, you will receive your $50 deposit.

State League Weekend - Update

Just a reminder that this weekend is the Summer state league season. Please read the following so you know what's going on

Fixture
Due to late team nominations, the fixture will not be released until Wednesday night.
Please keep an eye on Sporting Pulse (http://www.sportingpulse.com.au/select_node.cgi?cID=48&p=1).
All players should be prepared to play at 6:30 pm Friday 25th February
All players are to arrive at least 1 hour before the start of their first game to ensure administration requirements have been met, uniforms have been assigned, and any outstanding payments have been made.
If you are unable to make any games, you must contact the team manager, coach, or regional coordinator as soon as possible.

Uniforms
All playing shirts are available for collection at City Touch on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday night.
Shirts will not be handed out unless you have paid your $50 deposit.
Note that shirts have been assigned to players so that each player receives a top which is of a suitable size, so that there is no dispute between players on numbers, so that we can monitor our uniforms, and so that Touch SA has a record for TID purposes. For this reason players are not to swap their numbers after they have been allocated.
Men's shorts and women's lycra shorts have also been delivered and can be purchased this week.

CSTA Conditions Of Entry
A reminder that all players are expected to comply with the CSTA conditions of entry, which includes signing on and wearing the correct uniform (amongst other requirements). Failure to do this will result in a $50 fine for not signing on and an $11 fine for not wearing the correct uniform (per game)

CHANGE OF TIME - Sunday training 20th February

In order to avoid a number of playing/coaching commitments, and to coordinate a smaller number of people at one time, training times for Sunday 20th February have been changed to:
Men’s Open 3:30-5:00pm

Junior Mixed 5:00-6:30pm
Please arrive within 30 minutes of the start of your training session as players will be allocated playing shirts. Only a limited number of shorts will be available for purchase as the uniform order has been delayed.

Please confirm that you have received this email including any players that you are able to contact, in order to limit the number of phone calls that I need to make.

CSTA Team Fundraining BBQ

Dear CSTA players/managers/coaches,
As you are aware, fundraising BBQ's have been organised at City Touch over the past 2 weeks by the CSTA committee. In order to continue fundraising and to enable teams to meet on a more social level other than trainings/games, the committee has decided that each team is to organise and run the BBQ on 1 night.

It has been suggested that the following teams will be responsible for the following days. Tuesday 15th February: Men's Open
Wednesday 16th February: Mixed Open & Junior Mixed
Tuesday 22nd February: Women's Open

I need a volunteer from each team (perhaps the team manager or coach) to coordinate the following:
-organising volunteers to sell/cook BBQ
-ensuring the BBQ is being looked after at every time slot during the night
-setting up (BBQ, gas, signs, money) (6:00pm)
-making regular announcements on the City Touch speaker system.
-cleaning up (8:45pm)
-counting money at the end of the night
-reporting back to me on stock used (bread, snags, sauce)

Your goal will be to sell 60 snags. The committee appreciates the help of all volunteers and this help means that we are well on the way to winning the Club Championship in Summer 2005!

The Central Scorpions Touch Association would like to congratulate everyone who was recently selected into a team for the summer 2005 state league season which is to be played on Friday 25th, Saturday 26th, and Sunday 27th February 2005. Details have been sent to your email accounts, or coaches have been instructed to contact you to inform you of your selection.

To confirm your spot in the team, please respond via email or through your coach as soon as possible and before Tuesday COB 8th February accepting your selection or letting us know that you do not wish to participate.

As some players still need to confirm their availability due to work commitments etc, your selection is subject to change. For example, if you have been selected as a shadow for the Men’s Open team, you may be selected into the Men’s Open team in the event that someone pulls out, otherwise you will play for the Mixed Open team.

Dear City Touch Club and Central Scorpions Touch Association members,

Please read the following very carefully if you are interested in being part of the summer state league season to be played on Friday 25th February, Saturday 26th February and Sunday 27th February 2005.

BACKGROUND
The Central Scorpions Touch Association (CSTA) is a member of the Touch SA state league competition and provides an opportunity for City Touch members to play at a representative level. In order to qualify to play for CSTA you must be registered and playing in a City Touch Club competition in the Summer 2004/2005 season.

CSTA will be entering a team in each of the following divisions
Men's Open
Women's Open
Mixed Open
Junior Mixed (16 and under, born 1989 or after)
Please read the information below to find out what is required.

IMPORTANT DATES
The location of all trials, training, and games will be at the City Touch Club in Park 17 on Greenhill Road.
Trials (all divisions)
Sunday 23rd January, 4pm-6pm: Trials
AND
Sunday 30th January, 4pm-7pm: Trials/Training/SGM/BBQ
All players from City Touch and CSTA are welcome to attend the 2 trial days held on Sunday 23rd and 30th January. If you are unable to attend either of the trials, and wish to be considered for selection, you must contact Brice Mitchell (bricemitchell@yahoo.com.au) prior to the 2nd trial (Sunday 30th January). All players will trial together, and will be allocated to a team upon successful selection.
There will be a complimentary BBQ following the 2nd trial on 30th January (approx 6pm), at which time the Central Scorpions Touch Association will hold a Special General Meeting. At this meeting we will formalise all positions on the committee and we encourage all players and parents to attend.

Compulsory Training (all divisions)
Sunday 20th February, 4pm-6pm
Upon successful selection to a team, you will be expected to attend a compulsory training session held a week prior to the state league weekend. This training session will involve all players and coaches, but players will break into their division on the day.

Summer State League Season
Friday-Sunday 25th-27th February
The summer state league season will be played on 1 weekend and comprises of 3-4 minor round games (Friday/Saturday) and then finals (Sunday). The starting time for these games will be:
Friday 25th February: 6:30, 7:30, 8:30
Saturday 26th February: 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00
Sunday 27th February: 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 3:00, 4:00

FEES
Season fees are due before 11th February

We are also seeking assistant coaches for all divisions. No coaching experience or qualifications are required, so this is a great opportunity for people who are interested in coaching in the future as it will give the successful nominee valuable experience.

With Assassins playing Experiments in the second time slot, CSTA were guaranteed at least one win this week. And Experiments easily accounted for a decimated Assassins 7-2. Hopefully the RAAF boys will be back in the team next week, and we can start winning.

Also in the second time slot, Team Hansel, still short of players (honestly, guys, I had three other students from my school say they were all coming!) managed to comfortably beat Gutsliders 5-2. A great effort from some talented lads.

The women (girls?) all played in the first time slot, and Sparkle Motion, after a shock loss last week, defeated WDTA 3 5-4. After having spent all of last season undefeated, and top of the ladder, they are currently placed third, and will need to show some serious improvement before christmas. Derelique played a UniSA team, but at half time the game was given by forfeit to us. Derelique appear to be easily the best team in the competition, and may find themselves promoted to A grade after three straight wins.

Game times are not yet available, as there may be regrading after this round in some divisions.

Junior Mixed Win Grand Final.

Congratulations to Nicole and all of the Juniors for a great win last night, in the WInter 2004 Grand Final. A close game (I don't think the difference was more than 1 or 2 touchdowns for the whole game), but a positive result.

The Women's Open was a slightly different story. The pressure was on the girls, with it showing in the first half. Lots of dropped balls, and various other skill errors resulted in a 2 touchdown deficit at the break. With the second half came the rain, and our comeback. Never leading, Scorps finally clawed back to a level scoreline at the end of regulation time. Another drop-off.

And it too, was a close one. Seven minutes with 3 on 3 - plenty of scoring opportunities for both sides, with some great defence from all players keeping the game hanging in the balance. A great passage of play resulted in Nicole having another scoring opportunity, but she was just touched by one of the Stingrays. Sharon Gray then came onto the field, and with fresh legs evaded our defense, and scored the winning touchdown for the 'Rays.

So, bad luck to the girls, but congratulations on having made it that far. We have shown the TouchSA community we are a force to be reckoned with, and I hope to see most, if not all, of the team fronting up again for next season.

There is a presentation lunch to be held at Cafe Villanova Cucina (Norwood) on Sunday, November 28th. Please contact Nicole on 0422 734 271 to RSVP. I hope to see lots of people there - we are using it as a fundraising exercise, also.

Experiments start with a minor exchange of kinetic energy

The experiments managed a 5-2 win in their first game on Tuesday night. Due to a nasty dirty horrible illness, team organiser Shawn Garner was replaced by super-mom Indra Garner. Well known to the men on the team, she handed out shirts, set the tone, reffed two games and played her first game of men's A grade. By all witness accounts, she was robbed of a try after a beautiful read of the defence (not a deliberate dummy pass!). A large man collided with her while attempting to defend the dive, causing minor damage, but keeping up the family reputation for being fearless of physical contact (well pretty fearless, but not fully suicidal or anything).

The experiments team played well and by the second half had even remembered to run into gaps! This unit looks set to improve over the coming months under the leadership of seasoned vetran, touch Guru and all round nice guy Ninh Duong.

8 of the experiments and 5 of the Assassins are heading north next week, leaving the remaining CTSA players to make it up as they go along in the men's A grade. Have fun with it and see you on the 22nd Nov.

Where's the Kentish? defeated Anythingoes 9 - 3.

The Berry Spoons lost by one to Try Hards 7 - 8. Although there was some discussion as to the final score. The idiot in charge of the score-card (me) was accused by the opposition of not writing down some of their touchdowns.

"We scored 5 in the second half."

(30 sec later, another member of that team said:)

"We scored 3 in the second half."

A Big Thankyou to Mr Diplomacy, Greg, for not being too concerned about having a loss, when really we drew. I'm fairly certain I didn't miss any of the Try-Hards' touchdowns, but not completely.

New on the news front, we might be getting a new team added to our family: That's Tops are apparently keen to obtain some of the many benefits of being a CSTA team.

Round 1 Summer Results - Tuesday

Summer is back! Summer season, anyway; although Tuesday night felt like the height of summer. Maybe it was just the increased work rate (just a little faster than Mixed Open State League!), or the minimal subs Assassins had, but I think I died. Twice.

Anyway, Assassins kept with No Dumps for the first half, but let them run away a bit, finishing, 9 - 5 down.

Sparkle Motion (Women - A) had a big win: 15 - 0. Hope the girls win by that much on Friday night!

Team Hansel were boosted by a couple of Kiwi imports (unfortunately, fill-in only, as the boys go back to NZ at the end of the month.) Final Score against WDTA Untouchables (Jnr): 11 - 5.

Derelique were anything but, after leading by 1 at half time, they eventually trouncing the opposition, 8 - 3.

Experiments beat Diamontec A: 5 - 2, and are currently top of the ladder.

Next week, Assassins and Experiments are both short of players, so those remaining will play 'double games', and if anyone whinges, we'll just give them the win.

Scorps Women & Juniors in Grand Final

After an at times challenging season, the young Central Scorpions Women's Open team have made the TouchSA State League Grand Final, to be held this Friday at 8:30 pm.

With the team made up largely of State 18s players, plus some UniSA players, and three current Women's Open players, the Scorpions have finally shown they are a force to be reckoned with.

The season began well, with a 7-5 victory over Stingrays, before a narrow loss to Vipers.

Four losses on the trot looked suspiciously like a mid-season slump, before we were able to raise a 3 all draw against Vipers. From there, it's been victories all around, defeating each team in either the minor round or the finals. Now, there's only one game left, against Stingrays (the record against them this season: 7-5, 3-5, 6-4) and what a ripper it should be.

At the end of the minor round we were looking a little shaky with 9 games, 3 wins, 5 losses and a draw, but the finals haev shown our mettle. A tight (and long) drop-off on Friday night against Vipers, with some great play from our speedsters resulting in a satisfying victory. We were let down early in the game by skill errors, but finally overcame the opposition.

Sunday's game looked like it should have been easy, and we at times played a little that way. Despite having two players sent for time - at the same time - we managed to hold out a late offensive push from the under-manned Wolves and score a place in the Final.

Madelaine Carey is top of the touchdown table, with 9 for the season, after cobmining well with Tracy Frith, who has 8 of her own. Junior Coach Nicole Treleaven has 6 for the season, and is the only player to have played in every game. Every other regular player, with one exception has also made it onto the scoreboard. I won't mention her name, but hopefully we'll see her home and scoring this Friday!

For most of the team this is the first State League Grand Final they've played in, and let's hope it's a successful one!

The Junior Mixed team is also playing in the Grand Final this Friday.

Referee Course

City Touch will be advertising the next Level 1 Referees course in the near future. This course will cover all you need to know about refereeing lower – middle grade games at our competition.
The course generally only runs for ½ a day and includes some nibbles - the cost is around $32 and comes with a CD ROM that you can use to test yourself on the rules.

This course will be run around the 1st weekend in December (dates will be confirmed in the next week).

Final Minor Round Results

The warmth we all felt on Sunday was too much for the South-Western Wolves - they forfeited to our (full strength!) Juniors team. Three of the girls came up to play Mixed, but unfortunately during the second half we let the Vipers score a couple too many Touchdowns, and ended up losing 7-2. Scorers were Ash Green and yours truly.

The Men played next, and apparently the defence was woeful. Loose checking resulted in a 13-2 scoreline. Final position on the ladder: 3rd.

The Women came out firing, against our old favourite enemy, the Wolves. A couple of quick touchdowns gave us a handy 3-1 lead at half time, and some tough defence (especially the full-field chase-down by Lara!) kept the Wolves out, and we won 5-3, securing our 3rd position.

Finals next week, and none of the teams have a second chance - so it's sudden death from now on. Time to start winning!

Perhaps it was the weather, but I suspect it had more than a little to do with the fact that most of the team was there ready to worm up 45min before the game started!

My tip - the opposition coach was fairly fired up, and might miss a game or two.

Both Mixed teams lost, the Opens going down 7 - 1, Juniors 11 - 6.

Grand Final Victories

Congratulations to CSTA Women's (now called CSTA Sparkle Motion) for their 6-1 victory over the nasty WDTA Women.

I was extremely disappointed by the unsportsmanlike behaviour of some of the WDTA women on Monday night. Even after having almost a week to think about it, the one incident that still stands out in my mind (partly I guess because it was right in front of me) was the woman stepping onto the field to block Maddie's full-field run. Regardless of the fact that there was another player who was catching Maddie, behaviour like this has no place in our game. I understand that the referee didn't see how blatant it was, but I would have (if I was refereeing) sent that player for a period of time. It was totally not in the spirit of competition.

Also, congratulations to all other Scorps players who won Grand Finals this (or, indeed, last) week. And congratulations to all those players who won divisional best & fairest: Jo Fell comes to mind.

After an exciting week away, most of the players from CS Womens returned from the National 18s Championships in Coffs Harbour.

And we played badly. Especially in the first half. More drop balls than in the whole season combined. Only a couple of touchdowns!

Still, we got over the line, and next week we play in the Grand Final. I have promised to shave my sideburns off if we win by 10 or more touchdowns, and shave my whole head if we score 25 touchdowns.

Oh, and our game is at 7:15 next week.

City Scorps Summer Season

City Touch Summer nominations are now open.

TouchSA have decided that the eligibility rules for State League in the future will be altered, so that players need only play within their region for one season per calendar year to be eligible to represent said region in State League.

However, I think for the development of our region, we should be encouraging our players to play both seasons. This will enable us to keep a bigger pool of players, and build on some of the new friendships that have formed this season.

To this end, we have decided to try and foster a City Scorpions Touch Club - although if someone has a suggestion for a better name, I'd be happy to reconsider it.

What I need from you guys is an indication as to who is prepared to play in one or more of the teams that we will enter. We envisage entering teams on each night, and in each division (Men's, Women's Mixed). There may also be the possibility of having junior teams, and multiple teams on each night.

This is not just for elite players - if you have family members or friends who are interested in starting out, then point them our way, and we'll find a team for them to play in.

If you are currently in a team, and over the past few seasons have struggled to get enough players, then by becoming a part of our 'club', we can help supply you with players of either gender. You do not need to 'lose' your teams identity, and by becoming part of the CSTA family you will be entitled to club team rates at City Touch.

We are also looking for people to be team organisers - this will involve you becoming the team contact through city touch, and collecting payments, letting the CSTA committee know how you are going in regards to player numbers and individual player strengths, etc.

Ideally, eventually we would like to have a serious club structure in place, so that we can promote players to the level of competition that they are able to achieve the highest level of success and enjoyment from, and provide other services, such as coaching, financial support for development courses (referee/coach/selector) and uniforms.

Another win, against an in-form McLeod's Daughters. I think there are a few players in that team to watch out for over the next couple of years.

Building up to the 18s (which all but one player who played tonight will be at next week...) we 'took it easy', and used it as a chance to practice a couple of patterns.

Final score: lots to none.

This week's Women's Open game (State League) is at 8:30, but I want everyone there and ready to go for a session at 7:30. We should have heaps of players, and a session as a team will do us oodles of good.

Another week, another game. AUTC Aphrodite, the new improved AUTC Aphrodite (with Chris) took it up to us, relatively speaking, in the first half. 3-0 at half time, with the girls looking rather lazy (not long 'til 18s, I guess). The second half was a bit better, with the final result being 12-0.

Next week, another 7:05 game - the youngest WDTA team, McLeod's Daughters. Of course, this Friday's game vs. Northern Vipers (7:30) will push us a bit more...

Light on players again (7!), we came up against our arch-rivals, Greegan's Grogans. Last time we met, it was the first time for the season that we actually got scored against, and again Grogans looked good. The final score this time was 5-1, so pretty much similar to last time's 6-2.

Nicole & Anna showed us that we cannot take things too easy - luckily they play for us in State League!

Next week, 7:05 against AUTC Aphrodite, the last placed team. Last time it was 14-0, I'd like us to break that record. (Thanks to Principal Skinner...)

Games on Friday 10th September have been shifted back 15 minutes to allow a presentation to be done to the state 18s teams at 7:20 All players are expected to be there to support.

Mens Results - Round 3

I think Matt forgot to mention the mens game that was also played tonight! We were short in the mens team as well, with Phil and Col taking the night off, and Timmsy retiring for the season with knee problems, but we welcomed Cody into the mens side giving us 9. We had a good first half and improved on last week, yet we were still down 1-3, the lone try coming from a diving Lemmo! We played well in patches in the second half, and managed another try after a cut out ball created the overlap and Matt finished off some good ball movement. This was the only time we crossed the line in the second half and the final score was 2-7, possibly a result of our inexperience and fatigue.

We're looking forward to building on this game and with the return of Phil and Col on Sunday, we should really give the unbeaten Sting-gays a run for their money.

Results from Round 3

The night was looking ominous - with a huge number of players out due to injury and travel, two Women's Open players had to drop back into the Mixed Open & Junior teams, just to ensure there were enough players to take the field!

A hard fought game in the Mixed Open, with us down 5-2 at half time, resulted in a 9-6 loss. The second half was much better, as evidenced by the fact that we outscored them 4-3. Things look good for the future, with a relatively inexperienced group of players in this team. Tony & Matt scored two each, and Paul & Simon both chipped in with singles.

In actuality, there is possibly more experience in the Mixed Junior team, who had a great win, 5-3. Nicole the wonder-coach, yet to lose a game! Great work guys! And with only 7 players before half time, and 8 after! Lara, dropping back from the Women's to make up the numbers, scored 3 great touchdowns, and Will and John scored one each.

The Womens & Mens both played in the last time slot, and since I didn't see any of the Men's, I'll only briefly mention that they lost. 7-2. Matt M-S & Simon L were the scorers.

The Women's team was unsuccessful, too, but looked great in the first half. Keeping the Wolves within their half for about 3/4 of the half, we really only made one major defensive error, which they promptly capitalised upon, and scored. I had the feeling at half time that we were going to roll them, but unfortunately they scored a couple of touchdowns early in the second half. Eventually, we broke the drought and Ellen scored, but it was too late for a comeback, and the final score was 3-1. Let's face it, the Lewickis make that team!

Another game coming up on Sunday, with the Mixed & Juniors playing at 1:00pm, and the Womens at 2:00pm. Hang around if you can, to watch the Mens play at 3:00pm. Let's beat those Sting-gays.

CSTA - Uniforms needed this Friday 615

Dear players,
As you are aware, an extra division has been added to the state league competition (mixed juniors). This means that we now have to provide playing shirts for 4 teams. We currently do not own enough shirts, and until we buy some more, we will be collecting shirts after each game so that they can be used in the other divisions.

We need approximately 12 male and 12 female shirts for games starting at 630pm this Friday. If you still have a shirt in your possession, can you please hand it to someone who will be there at 615pm (or earlier). Let me know if this is not possible.

Due to this circumstance, we are looking for 2 volunteers who can collect male or female shirts after the last game that they are needed (usually mens or womens), take them home, have them washed, and bring them back at least 15 minutes prior to the next game (usually mixed juniors or mixed opens). For this service, CSTA will subsidise your playing fees.

This does not mean that players can swap numbers, please keep the number that you have already been wearing to asssit with admin and signing on each game

State League "Round 2" Results

After 2 postponed rounds due to wet weather, the 2004 Winter state league season finally kicked off on Sunday 15th August with “Round 2”.

The mixed opens team represented the club in the first game, but unfortunately went down 0-6 to a more experienced South West Wolves team. This was a good chance for the mixed juniors to have a run who had a bye this week, which was lucky due to dwindling numbers in the mixed opens side.

The women’s team, without star coach Matt Schinckel, fought hard in the first half but was down 0-2 and Mel Day (injury) at half time. The half time address by the “coach of the Day” inspired Nicole Treleaven to score 3 TDs in the second half. Unfortunately, this was not enough as they went down 3-4 to the Vipers.

The new look men’s open team played the young Wolves team led by Jezza and Gav. The Scorps got off to a good first half, holding the Wolves scoreless and led 2-0 at half time. This heated game was 2-2 shortly after half time before Colm Maguire led the way to victory. The final score was 6-4.

State League Round 2 Friday 13th August POSTPONED

I spoke too soon! Please pass this onto anyone who may not receive this info via email or on the web site

State League Round 2 has been postponed to Sunday 22nd August 2004 as per previous communication of 1pm, 2pm & 3pm. This is due to City Touch only finishing it’s final round at 11.30am.

The Reason:

We have advice as at 12 noon from the Weather Channel that is forecasting hazardous conditions. The advice states that a front is expected to come through Adelaide at 5pm. It is a Severe Wind Advice bringing thunderstorms and possible hail. This is obviously a dangerous situation; therefore we are making a decision to postpone games early enough as to allow communication to go through to all participating people.
