City Touch Round 1 Analysis
Well, City Touch Club Winter season began last night, and City Scorpions Touch had a big win: 8-0 over WDTA Fruittis. Great to see the girls in such fine form - big kudos to all, but especially Lucy B for her big intercept touchdown. Tessa kept the team going well, considering we only had one sub, and Mel R scored several touchdowns.
Things we can still work on over the next few weeks are:
Having said that, I think the best aspects of our game last night were our overall defensive effort (they really only got close to the line on a handful of occasions), the one great shoot we did, and our early driving game. Our driving off the changeover was particularly strong - there's not much better than a changeover, two touches and a half through to score.
Next week's game is at 8:45, Field 1, and we are playing WDTA 1 - who won 9-1 (I think) last night, so I expect them to challenge us a bit. To get to the draw/results, go to SportingPulse (must register first).
Things we can still work on over the next few weeks are:
- Line Attack - we need to get out of the Park Touch mentality of trying to score on each touch. Patience, and using touches to move the defenders before capitalising on their errors will enable us to not only score more touchdowns, but prepare us more for State League.
- Shoot Defence - we did this really well once last night - kept the attackers to almost within their 10m. If we can get this down pat, we can really put pressure on Wolves, Vipers and Stingrays.
- Fitness - although we only had 7 players, fitness will still improve our game.
- Chaseout/Shutdown - we have got the ability to do this really well, but it will only work if everyone does it well, fast, and every time.
